Syllabus

There are 7 belts in Ju-Jitsu that you can progress through. The belt system we have in place is as follows: White, Yellow, Green, Blue, Purple, Brown and Black.

Below is the syllabus which you must learn in order to earn each belt.

WHITE BELT

1. Dojo Etiquette
2. Break-falls (Front / Back / Side / Rolling / Fore flap)
3. Breaking a front strangle (4 variations)
4. Breaking a back strangle (2 variations)
5. Straight arm-lock (2 variations)
6. Hip throw
7. Shoulder lock
8. Recumbent ankle throw
9. Kata of 8 blocks

YELLOW BELT

1. Hip throw with shoulder arm-lock
2. Hip throw with crossover lock
3. Defence against kicks to head on the ground (4 variations)
4. Arm-locks from standing position (3 variations)
5. Shoulder arm-lock (2 variations)
6. Wrist locks from grab and push (3 variations)
7. Wrist throw with lock
8. Reclining leg throw (with strikes)
9. Breaking ground strangles (5 variations)
10. Breaking hair grabs (2 variations)
11. Kata of 14 blocks

GREEN BELT

1. Body drop
2. Half shoulder throw (2 variations)
3. Leg throw with locks (2 variations)

6. Crab claw scissors (2 variations)
7. Attacking & Defending sweeping loin (3 variations)
8. Cross hock throw (2 variations)
9. Drawing ankle (2 variations)
10. Inside hock throw (2 variations)
11. Stamp throw
12. Methods of escape over and under arms from front and rear (8 variations)
13. Knee wheel (3 variations)
14. Bar chokes (2 variations)

At Green belt level, students are encouraged to undertake a recognised course in First Aid in addition to the techniques taught.

BLUE BELT

4. Variations on holding down (set of 3 katas)
5. Breaking strangles and chokes on the ground (6 variations)
6. Dropping version of body drop (2 variations)

9. Front and rear scoop
10. Indian death lock (2 variations)
11. Downward inside forearm block (left & right)
12. Roundhouse kick to solar plexus whilst walking (left & right)
13. Sleeper hold from head chancery
14. Outside forearm block with elbow/impi strike to floating rib (left & right)
15. Defence against knife attacks (6 variations)

1. Valley drop throw

9. Outer wheel (2 variations)
10. Action against 3 or more attackers (6 variations)
11. Variations on stomach throws (5 variations)
12. Outer hook throw
13. Ways of throwing opponents from behind (12 variations)
14. Shoulder dislocations (7 variations)
15. Dropping version of reverse body drop (2 variations)
16. Shoulder crash (2 variations)
17. Palm heel knockout blow to chin (4 variations)
18. Left upward block with knife hand to neck
19. Back kick when held by both hand from behind (4 variations)
20. Chop to neck with kick to solar plexus (2 attackers & 2 variations)
21. Upward kick to kneecap (Left & Right sides)
22. Side-kick to kneecap (using heel)
23. Different blocks using same blocking arm (3 variations)
24. Arm and shoulder throw with shoulder & wristlocks
25. Roundhouse kick from ground to lower body (2 variations)
26. Side thrust kick to back of knee from ground
27. Side snap kick (3 variations)
28. Side thrust kick to kneecap followed by a roundhouse kick to ribs
29. One-handed throws (2 variations)

All students passing this grade will be expected to know all previous juko-ryu grades before going on to work on shodan and will be examined on same.

BLACK BELT

At Black belt level, students must have taken and passed a recognised course in First Aid. If the course was completed prior to receiving Black belt, the certificate of completion must be valid.
